the modification allows the talbabout+ and the talkabout slk to have twice the output power approx 1 watt after this mod.
the mod solders a 10 ohm smt resistor on top of the 10 ohm existing smt resistor so that it will drop the resistance to 5 ohms since it is in paralell.
before: current draw on batteries 250ma
after mod : current draw on batteries 500ma-600ma
use nicad batteries for better duration after this mod...
the distance has increased dramatically!!
instructions:
1.use a power supply with amp, use croc clips to power the tx and measure the current draw on a stock unit.. it should be about 250-300ma.
2.open up the talkabout+ (for slk pry open the small faceplate near the tx buttonto reveal two secret screws in front)
3.the arrow points to the cicuit board that is to be modified..
note the screws, all the power and antenna is spring loaded and depends on proper tightening to function well.
pry open the circuitboard carefully to reveal,
note the 2 blue caps
using a magnifying glass and a thin soldering tip, (low wattage) place a small smt resistor on top of the current one.. you may need a drop of superglue on a small pinhead do stick the resistors toegehter before soldering.
once the mod is done.. measure the current draw by pressing the tx button , it should be double the draw.
the transistor is the final stage rf transistor and we do not want to drop the resistor too low as we do not want to the transistor to heat up too fast with too much voltage.
we have tried modifying the sets with 3.9 ohm resistor but the current draw remains the same.
