radio frequency (rf) is a rate of oscillation in the range of about 3 hz to 300 ghz,[1] which corresponds to the frequency of electrical signals used to produce and detect radio waves. as most of this range is above the vibration rate that the majority of mechanical systems can respond to, rf usually refers to electrical rather than mechanical oscillations (with the notable exception of rf mems).
