i'm news in shanghai, i'm looking for oms who can speak english.
i'm not sure that's a right place in this forum but my message is:

1. i would like to know what is the regulation in china for the foreigner om.
can i practice ham activities in china? or at least, can i listen the ham band?

2. i'm looking for a place in shanghai where i can buy a receiver and a transceiver as well as components for the electronic device i would like to build.

welcome to shanghai! regarding to your question,

1. there is regulation from crsa (official ham organization in china), but it is in chinese only. (http://www.crsa.org.cn/news_end.php?id=121&&p=2) in short you should at least consult crsa shanghai branch the detail steps to get something like a permit to be able to get on air in china.

2. for ham gear purchase, i do not recommend you buy it on local market by yourself. there is a ham shop in crsa shanghai branch. for electronic components, there is a market on beijing road (no.668 east beijing road, shanghai). but i also suggest you find a local ham accompany with you to avoid the language barriar and help bargaining as well. http://www.king.sh.cn/kingtech_home...o/location.html

thanks kevin for the information, i will consult the crsa. i read long time ago that in china, foreigner om can only transmit from a local radio-club, but it's long time ago.
so, i will check this week-end with the crsa.

in fact i already leave for 3 years in china (i moved from shenzhen) but i was to busy to check. i should stay a long time in shanghai, so i'm looking enjoying ham.

yeah, you'd better double check with crsa for the latest policy. since you will stay here for quite some time, it's a good idea to build up your own radio shack and get on the air here in china. the ham shop is in the same building of crsa shanghai office (no.444 guang zhong road) and there are hf tranceivers like ft-897d, ic-718, ts-2000 etc., vhf/uhf mobile and handheld are also available. but the availablility for specific model depends on its stock (it's a small shop though)...antennas are also available but is limited to certain models. you can make a tour to crsa shanghai if you have time and visit that shop (owner is ba4aa). it takes some time to build a shack and get on the air... you may also want other ham's suggestion on obtaining a satisfatory gear from a trustable dealer. sometimes we buy rigs from dealers in other cities like shenzhen. you can contact your ham friends in shenzhen about ham equipment purchase as well. good luck and looking forward to hearing you on the bands.
