A new version is available with a rewritten Help file with more graphics and detail, including an Initial Setup section which can be read standalone as How to set up NaP3 in the NaP3 Files section. Following this should provide the basis for trouble-free operation.
v2.7.0 is the usual result of a four-way tug of war: the ‘power users’ who want everything that can be changed to have a control to adjust (which will confuse novice users), the ‘novice users’ who need something which is as close to plug’n'play as possible (which frustrates power users), the ‘display-only’ users (who want as few controls as possible) and the ‘I want a software sub-receiver’ users (who need a range of dsp functions to hand).
As ever, it is handling sound cards, specifically the E-MU 0202/4 family, that has taken up most development time. These are capable of wide divergence from useful settings. In addition to the trapping and warning messages of unacceptable absolute levels in previous releases, v2.7.0 will enable these cards to set their inconveniently high output more accurately with a control that overrides the Windows mixer. There is also a channel balance meter for setting those tiny plastic knobs.
