this year 2010 the geo parks main communication weekend event will take place on 22nd/23th may.
radio stations from around the world will exchage greetings with gb6geo over the airwaves at the english riviera global geopark on may 22nd -23rd, 2010. the special event station will transmit live from kents cavern in torquay, right in the heart of the english riviera global geopark.
using a special event call sign, gb6geo,will established contact with other radio stations around britain, europe and the world from a base set up outside the entrance to kents cavern, devon’s internationally famous stone age cave and gateway to the english riviera global geopark.
main freq's to be used are 3.680mhz, 7.080mhz, 14.180mhz, 21.180mhz, and 28.180mhz..
gb6geo will also be transmitting on 2m fm/ssb.
during the day the operators will be g3lhj, g3vof, g0azx, and 2e0ghr, with great thanks to g4fcn who will bring the tower, and to the torbay amateur radio society (t.a.r.s.), other "geo" stations on during the weekend will include cs8geo,dk0geo, dd0d (mostly rtty/psk 20m), df0erz, dr9vaurs/p, ei2geo, gb2geo, gb5geo, gb6geo gb2mac, and yp2geo
gb6geo will make contact with radio stations transmitting from within other global geoparks. as stated earlier, there are other operators around the world using the geo based call sign as part of the geo parks communication weekend. gb6geo will establish contact with some of these over the event weekend.
kent's cavern is famous internationally for its remarkable history of ancient human occupation going back more than 500,000 years. it is an english protected national monument, international prehistoric show cave and a gateway to unesco’s english riviera global geopark.

nick, added, “interest in the global geoparks network and its geo-tourism potential is gaining momentum around the world. globally, the geopark designation is recognised as a powerful way to bring economic benefits through the development of geo-tourism activities and promoting geo-diversity of the geopark area.”
visitors over the weekend will exchange greetings and receive a souvenir certificate recording the station they speak to.
the geopark special event station is also supported by hrh the duke of edinburgh (patron of the r.s.g.b.) who has added his own words, and congratulation to the winners of our diploma.
geopark certificate
for amateur radio stations/swl's around the world who contact/hear geopark stations, the english riviera geopark is offering a special commemorative european geoparks network radio amateur certificate for contacts with gb6geo (instant qualifier), or two geopark stations excluding gb6geo. (this award will also apply to swl's on a heard basis). this certificate, is endorsed by our queens husband h.r.h the duke of edinburgh, with his own words congratulating the holder. certificates will cost uk £3 each, europe 4 and rest of the world usd5.
alternatively certificate holders to be the first in their country to claim the certificate will have an 'fc' suffix following the certificate number. this denotes the first person in their country to claim the 'geoparks' award. these certificate holders will be worth one point towards the basic certificate, that requires two points, or work any five (5) certificate holders. many of these certificate holders can be found in the torbay amateur radios society nets, details from the website

there is a special glossy high quality souvenir qsl cards for this event, promoting the english riviera geopark.
all qsl cards will automatically be sent out via the bureau, or send an sase in the uk. if you are outside the uk, then please send an addressed envelope, and sufficient funds for return postage, if you would like a card direct qsl via g3vof.
