yes the terrible earth quake cause great loss of life and property damage in sichuan area.
the earth quake was happened in 14:28pm 12, may. after 3 hours later, crsa called for amateur radio operators national wide to provide emergency communication services for disaster relief, and announced 7050, 7060khz as emergency communication frequency, and later added 14270khz as day time frequency.
immediately after the disaster, the local uhf/vhf repeaters in chengdu area back to operation very quickly, and cover about 100km far from chengdu. however, the center of this earth quake, wenchuan, still has no communication means till 13, may, when the municipal officer could make a satellite call. until 15, may, all towns was brought back to public telecom network but the remote areas are not fortunate enough.
by8aa, sichuan radio sports association amateur radio station, was able to on air in hf band. jarl announced in their website urged ja operators to avoid 7050khz for disaster communication. by8aa sent many valuable messages from front line. from 13, may, by8aa has been kept communication to by1pk in hourly basis.
till today, 15, may 2008, many amateurs in china area 8 (earth quake center) and part of area 9 put up their simple antennas from the damaged building, and more amateur radio operators nearby take their radio equipment went to the disaster area to help.
furthermore, amateurs radio operators from beijing, nanjing, wuhan, and other cities went to sichuan, brought their own equipment. because the earth quake center located in mountain area, more hf/vhf/uhf communication equipments and operators were needed.
still we have more ham radio operators ready to go for disaster relief, we will do our best as radio amateur operators for the big disaster.

地震爆发于5.12下午14:28,3小时后，crsa召集了国内大量的业余无线电操作者去支持灾区的应急通信，同时宣布7050khz，7060khz作为应急频率，之后又增加了14270khz作为白天的通讯频率。
地震后，四川成都本地的爱好者uhf/vhf在频段立即迅速建立了应急通信。覆盖了大约成都周边100公里的范围。但是地震中心汶川到5.13才有政府官员通过卫星电话与外界建立通讯联络。到5.15，除部分偏远乡镇外都重建了公共电话网络通信。
by8aa，四川应急通信指挥中心建立了hf频段的通信。jarl在网络上通知ja操作员把7050khz作为灾区通信频率。by8aa在前线传送了许多有价值的信息。从5.13开始，by8aa与by1pk建立了每小时通信。
到2008.5.15 为止，8区（地震区）和部分9区的业余无线电爱好者在收到破坏的建筑上架起了他们的简易天线，周边的爱好者也带上他们的设备对灾区进行支援。
此外，北京、南京、武汉还有其他地区的爱好者带上他们自己的设备来到四川。因为地震中心在山区，需要更多的hf/vhf/uhf通信设备和操作员。
现在我们的灾区需要更多的无线电操作员，我们会在大灾中尽力做好一名救灾通讯员。

this is the second status update report of sichuan earthquake disaster.
till 12:00 19, may, 34,073 people killed and 245,108 injured in the may 12 earth quake. china on may 19, monday began a three-day national mourning for the tens of thousands of people killed in the may 12 earthquake.
by8aa, the sichuan radio sports association amateur radio station, published their contact information on internet, including officers contact telephone number, repeater uplink/downlink frequency, etc, help public and other amateur radio operators entered into sichuan provide an efficient communication way. during the 1 week operation, by8aa has created 300 pages operation paper log, 30 hours voice recording and 1.5 hours video, and 2gb photo materials.
now, not only chengdu, other cities in the earthquake area had setup repeaters and amateur radio communication team to aid communication, the related information was published on internet, showing the repeaters coverage to guide users.
by 17 may, the long distance telephone call sometimes jammed to sichuan area. chinese red cross foundation asked crsa to setup an hf station in chengdu. the callsign is bt8rc. from 17 may, bt8rc helped crcf established a good communication channel from beijing to chengdu.

到5.19的12:00，5.12地震死亡人数上升到34,073人，受伤人数上升到245,108。在5.19，周一的时候，全中国为死难同胞开始历时3天的国殇。
by8aa，四川应急通信指挥中心，在网络上公布了一些联络信息，包括官员联络电话，无线电通信联络上行/下行频率等。以帮助社会公众和其他支援四川的友台提供一个高效的通信方式。在一周的应急通信中，by8aa收集了超过300页的联络日志，30小时的联络录音，1.5小时的影像和超过2gb的图片资料。
现在，不仅成都，其他许多受地震影响的城市也设立了中继站和应急通信组帮助通联。最新的消息在网上发布，展示出中继站的通信覆盖范围以帮助使用者。
到5.17为止，到四川的长途通信仍不时的中断。中国红十字协会请求crsa到成都建立hf通信站。呼号是bt8rc。从5.17开始，bt8rc已经为红十字会建立了一条从北京到成都的hf通信频道。

this is the 3rd status update for 12 may earthquake.
according to the information office of the state council, the death toll from china's may 12 earthquake reached 65,080 as of monday(26, may) noon.
by8aa, as the main organizer of local amateur radio traffic, continuously coordinated vhf/uhf communications about 100 km radius from chengdu. more repeaters were setup in beichuan, mianyang to form an amateur radio communication network.
reported by bg8dou, right after the earthquake, 2 ham radio operators drove to the center of the earthquake area, setup a repeater at morning of 13 may. the public communication was not recovered then and this repeater took the responsibility of delivering instructions and reporting status as main communication channel for public use, including the mayor of mianzhu city, he gave orders to front line through the repeater.
"when all other communication means failed, amateur radio operators came out! an amateur radio emergency communication network was setup and one of the commander liu hu called for amateur radio operators on air and provide services for disaster relief. hopefully one main repeater survived during the earthquake, this repeater provided 100km coverage to mianyang. amateur radio operators from chengdu, shenzhen, he'nan went to center of the disaster area, setup repeaters in beichuan county seat, provided various valuable first hand information from center", china central television (cctv) reported in morning news, 26 may.
2 weeks past, there are over 5 million people to settle, now the most demanded materials are tents, medicines in disaster area. because sometimes there was bad weather, accomodation and epidemic prevention is very critical in current stage.
we have receivered some enquiries and warm concerns from amateur radio societies world wide.
because in current stage the public communication was recovered in most area, crsa decides to releases the emergency communication frequency 7050khz, 7060khz and 14270khz. and if the aftershock hits, crsa will call for clear frequency again. thanks for the cooperation and efforts made by all amateur radio societies.
if time permit, i propose to send some slides to garec-08 meeting in later june to report amateur radio emergency communication stories in this big earthquake.

by8aa，应急通信的组织者，连续不断的协调成都周边100公里范围内的通信，更多的中继站深入到北川，绵阳建立通信网络。
根据bg8dou的报告，地震发生后，两名爱好者开车进发到地震中心区域，在5.13早晨建立了转播。公共通信仍然没有覆盖的时候，担当起转运指挥同时作为公共通信的主要频道播报现场状态。包括绵竹市长的命令也通过这个频道传达。
“在其他的通讯手段无效的情况下，无线电爱好者出现了！一个应急通信的网络建立起来，其中一名指挥者刘虎召集业余无线电爱好者进行通信，为救灾服务。非常幸运的是，一个主要中继站在地震中存活下来，这个中继站可以覆盖成都周边超过100公里的范围，包括绵阳。来自成都、深圳、河南的爱好者进发到地震中心区域，在北川的农村建立中继站，提供了许多来自震中的第一手信息。”cctv报道5.26早晨。
两个星期过去了，那里有超过500万居民需要安置，
现在震区最需要的物资是帐篷、药物，由于时常恶劣的天气，现阶段食宿和传染病防治问题是非常重要的。
