obzor, bulgaria
bulgarian federation of radio amateurs (bfra) is pleased to invite individual cw contesters and
visitors/guests from all over the world to 1st open cw contest party to be held in bulgaria in september
2009.
venue:
the contest party will be held in obzor, situated at black sea coast, 60 km south of varna and 60 km
north of burgas. obzor is a relatively small town (population 2400), but one of well known bulgarian
sea resorts. many factors make it a preferable destination for the summer vacation – ecologically pure
region, 5-km-long beach, active nightlife.

the participants who do not use their own transport, should select their final destination amongst
burgas international airport, varna international airport or the relevant railway station in these
towns. sofia international airport is located relatively away from the venue (440 km) but the organisers
will provide transfers to the venue and back upon request.
accommodation:
the accommodation will be organised in a luxury four-star hotel located only 50 m apart of the beach.
triple rooms with wc, bath, and tv are provided. double and single occupancy accommodation is
available upon request (see bellow). accommodation prior and post championship is also available
upon request.
weather:
the weather in this period of the year is stable, usually sunny, with daily temperatures (both air and
water) 22–23 degrees c, in other words – ideal for vacation and swimming.
visa requirement:
the citizens of majority countries expected to take part in the event do no need visa to enter bulgaria.
those persons who need visa should inform us as soon as possible, due to short notice. they will
receive official personal invitation.
rules
rules are very simple.
every participant will run computer simulated cw contest.
the organizers will provide computers with qwerty keyboards.
initial program settings will be the same for all participants.
use of own computers is not allowed.
morse runner software will be used (
www.dxatlas.com).
every participant will make two 2-hour attempts running the program in wpx mode.
combined result from the two attempts will make the final score.
the winner will get an hf transceiver.
program of the championship:
14 september, monday – arrival, accommodation, official opening;
15 september, tuesday – wpx attempt 1;
16 september, wednesday – wpx attempt 2, awarding;
17 september, thursday – departure.
entry fee and terms of payment:
total package including accommodation (all inclusive) and closing banquet:
a) for competitors and team officials: euro 150;
b) for guests/visitors: euro 150;
c) double occupancy accommodation: the relevant prices above plus euro 30 per person;
d) single occupancy accommodation: the relevant prices above plus euro 50 per person.
transfers:
the price to obzor and back per person is as follows:
from burgas international airport, varna international airport or relevant railway station: euro 25;
from sofia international airport: euro 60.
additional opportunities:
other high level amateur radio competitions will be held in the same hotel in obzor:
– 8th iaru world high speed telegraphy (hst) championship (11-16 september, 2009);
– 17th iaru region 1 amateur radio direction finding (ardf) championships (16 – 21
september 2009).
this circumstance creates a great opportunity for those who want to combine all events and spend a
splendid vacation at the seacoast. the price for the whole period 11 – 21 september is the one
shown above plus:
euro 200 for one of the events (hst 11-14 september or ardf 17-21 september) ,including excursion
and banquet (after hst or ardf championships). total 150+200 = euro 350
euro 320 for both of the events (hst 11-14 september and ardf 17-21 september) ,including two
excursions and two banquets (after hst and ardf championships). total 150+320 = euro 470
hst and ardf participants, who wish to additionally take part in the contest party, pay the
corresponding hst or ardf fee, plus euro 80.
for double or single occupancy accommodation –respectively plus euro 30 or euro 50 per person.

1. we apologize for the short notice, which makes it a little difficult to plan your participation.
2. in case you are willing to take part, please inform us as soon as possible, but not later than 10 days
prior the event.
