i bought a 480sat last year. however due to various circumstances i sold it shortly after - and have regretted it ever since.
a local dealer here in oz-land now sells the 480hx at 935 so i decided it was time to get another 480.
i bought it as a back up rig for my ic756pro3, however the 480hx gets a large part of my qso's. i enjoy the flexibility of the detached control head, the quiet transceiver and the ergonomics.
rx specs are quite similar to the pro3 (and you can actually hear it when doing a/b tests), however pro3 with the if-dsp and all its functionality is of course a different animal. one feature i value very high on the 480hx (and miss on the pro3) is nr2's ability to lift a cw signal out of noisy band making it very easy to copy.
this is a very competent, yet very cheap, 200w radio with a very nice qsk.
if you can live with the look (i like it!) and the small foot print /front end of the control head - there's no competition in that price level... or the next price level for that sake.
