1kw is not much different to the receiver signal level as it has only 10db power gain to the 100w. if the rx station antenna is normally having -90dbm singal level if using one normal dipole antenna from one tx station of 100w, if the tx station change to 1000w, then the rx station has the received signal of -80dbm only, the signal level on the singal meter may change from s3 to s6/s7 only.
in fact, tx power is not the main critical factor to establish one qso, the rx part is much much more important ! therefore if you have money to be spent for one kw amplifier, please rather buy one good yagi antenna - such as the stepp-ir ! you may have much better qso result and eliminate the qrm as well.
