although it can use a pc, sienna is not a software-defined radio (sdr). sienna uses a traditional analog triple-conversion receiver and single conversion transmitter.
the optional internal pc adds digital modes, web connectivity, usb and all the other features of a pc built-in, but it is not required, nor do you need an external pc unless you select a model without a front panel, because the radio has its own internal microprocessors.
