it's time to turn those beams away from north america or off europe and focus them on asia, as the 2008 all asian dx cw contest takes center stage this weekend.
the 48 hour test allows you to work everything from 5b in cyprus to ua9's in asiatic russia to 3w in vietnam and back to stations in the persian gulf.
the defending single operator all band champ is vadim ovsiannikov ua9clb, now ranked #4 in the radio-sport.net world standings.
ovsiannikov took advantage of the points structure in the all asian dx contests, where qsos on 160 meters are worth 3 points, 80 and 10 meters count for two points and contacts on 40, 20 and 15 meters are one point each.
while ua9clb made over 1,000 contacts on 20 meters, he netted almost the same amount of points by tapping out over 450 qso's in all on 160, 80 and 10 meters.
top single ops from other continents included, ps2t in south america, kh0n in oceania, uu7j in europe, vq9jc in africa and k6xx who repeated as north american champ.
"the propagation for wpx cw was decent this year, and this contest falls 28 days after that one," says dennis egan w1ue, who will be operating the aa test from k1ttt in massachusetts.
"i'm looking forward to better conditions from new england to asia this year," added egan, who won the award as top w1 op with 284 qso's.
"aa dx cw from here is pretty much a s&p and packet contest," egan told radio-sport.net.
don't forget that the all asian dx contest rules allow packet for all single operators, as there is no assisted category (see sidebar.)
