Installation and Release Notes: Version 1.854

Installation: Please just click on the downloaded file.  It will self extract and start the installation. It is best if you temporarily disable any antivirus software.  If you are using an AMD system, please logoff and logon after the installation.  You can uninstall previous releases at any time.
New:
-Support has been added  for the SDRPlay to be used as a panadapter for the KX2 and KX3.  No need for a sound adapter.

Fixed: Users with a 10W K3 or K3S were unable to adjust the power output.  Corrected in this release.

Hello,
Win4K3Suite now supports the SDRPlay software defined radio when used as a panadapter.  This device provides the lowest cost panadapter available for the K3 and K3S with an IF output and allows useable bandwidths up to 1.8MHz!  No sound card is required.
Unlike competing panadapter software for the K3, Win4K3Suite is truly plug and play requiring only refinement of the global offset.  All bands and modes work without any configuration required.
This release of Win4K3Suite also now supports connection to a K3/0 allowing remote control of your radio using the Elecraft K3/0 just like a K3.
There are addition enhancements such as a doubling of the waterfall resolution, support for the 15W output of the KX3 and a few bug fixes.
Win4K3Suite is the most comprehensive control program available for the Elecraft radios and interfaces to all third party hardware and software with minimum fuss.

Hi Jim:

Yes, you can run CW Skimmer with the SDR-Play by using HDSDR as the panadapter & control program. You will also need a virtual audio cable program. HDSDR has settings to feed I/Q audio to a virtual audio cable, which can be used by CW Skimmer. It also allows controlling the SDR-Play frequency to slave it to your rig via Omni-Rig. Although this page is not SDR-Play specific, the settings are the same. You will need to install the RSP1 EXTIO plug-in from the SDR-Play site in order for HDSDR to work with the SDR-Play.

The main restriction with this setup is CW Skimmer has to run in Softrock-IF mode, which limits the skimmer display bandwidth to about +/- 12 Khz from where you are tuned.

These capabilities may eventually be added to Console V3 & even SDRUno, but I think HDSDR is the only way to do it now.  

I have my SDR-Play running stand-alone for the time being, monitoring with CW Skimmer on different bands from the main rig (K3s), which also has skimmer running with it. I just have to remember to switch out the antenna to the SDR-Play before TX'ing on the K3.

After some experimentation the 2m station now uses an SDR at the
transverter IF, 28MHz, which is where the front-end gain and SNR are the
highest (the SNR at the K3 IF port is not as good, which is very
noticeable with weak signals). The SDR-IQ, Funcube Dongle Pro+ and
SDRplay all gave comparably good waterfall displays but the SDRplay has
the major advantage that the frequency span can be expanded beyond the
more usual limit of 192kHz. For example, European VHF/UHF contests
require 250kHz for full coverage - and those extra kHz are important,
because stations do spread out to the extreme edges of the range.
