best dx worked: ea8cmx (13,000 km). best dx heard: c91ww & zs9x (19,000 km). i heard about a dozen bys, but managed to finally work only b7p the second night. the "golden alligator" award goes to bt4expo. i didn't hear him even complete one single qso during the many times i had him tuned in!

10m showed a little life but not quite as much as we hoped. we only woirked one european contact (gw9t). the big 10m surprise was sunday morning when we worked a couple of far east stations on the long path (vr2 and b7p). that's the first time i've done that in many years.

the highlight of the contest for me was sitting down at the second station at the run position on sunday morning after being up all night on the low bands and, while bemoaning the fact that we could not get b7p's attention on 80m, hearing k0ni say that he and k0lyn had just worked b7p on 10m. i said no way, jeff handed me the headphones and sure enough the band was wide open long path to asia. there was no volume of stations but vr2, b7p, ah0 and others begging for contacts - all about s8 on the meter. i think 10m is going to be a lot of fun starting next year.

first half serious try at a contest in about 10 years. heard the b7p on sunday morning about 6:30 calling with no answers. by the time i got the antenna turned he was gone. glad someone got him. i did work zl, vk, and ja. i learned a lot about using n1mm. it was all search and pounce. i will have a long time to go before i beat 20 per hour. i'm not that hot on cw but hope to give it a try

quite a few zone "got-aways". heard zone 6 (xe2cq) only once. also heard a vk4 in zone 30 calling others, but i could never find zone 30 myself. along with others i spent some time calling a loud b7p in zone 24 who was evidently having difficulty hearing europe. another easy zone missed was lp1h in 13. was pleased to get a few zone 3 stations just around sunrise.

cq still knows how to throw a party....nice condx on 15m both days...few surprises - being called by fr5ec and then finally digging out 5w0ky at the end on sunday evening. biggest surprise was b7p lp over south africa on saturday.
