a.r.m ., association of the radio hams of monaco, has the sadness to
announce the death, on saturday march 8th 2008, at the age of 84, after a
long illness, of their very dear friend henky (henri van klaveren), 3a2ah.
leaving his native country holland, he came to settle, while still young,
at monaco. early on, he showed a taste for radio, and began his career as
a technician in a radio company of monaco. in the early 1950's, henky was
one of the first radio amateurs in the principality and one of the
founders in 1953 of the national amateur radio society of monaco (arm). it
was at the time of the am radio era, the true pioneers of radio who built
their own equipment, including sometimes electronic tubes, recovering
reformed military equipment. later, when his professional job left him in
the leisure - he became meanwhile responsible for the maintenance of
equipment of a large french public works company -, he gave courses
preparation techniques for radio licence. henky was also long iaru region
i liaison officer, and as such represented monaco at numerous conferences
from the 1970's to 1996. henky had almost ceased any amateur radio
activity in recent years because of his health, but was still available to
give technical advice, amend an electronic project to the judgment by a
radio amateur.
in these painful circumstances, we extend our deepest condolences to his
wife maryse, who has devoted so much to him during his long months of
illness and hospitalization, and to his children and grandchildren.
the funeral took place at the sainte-devote catholic church in monaco
wednesday, march 12 at 14:30.
