"a series of earthquakes has struck off the coast of honshu japan around
05:46utc today causing extensive damage to the country and also
triggering tsunami waves and warnings across the pacific.

at this time there are no reports of amateur radio involvement in the
disaster response but it would be appreciated if extra care was taken to
avoid any emergency traffic. the iaru region 3 emergency centre of
activity frequencies are;

3600 khz
7110 khz
14300 khz
18160 khz
21360 khz

the situation is developing as it can take many hours for a tsunami wave
to cross the pacific ocean, more information will be provided when it is
available."

if there is any more information that region 3 wants published here in
europe/africa then please let me know.

big quake hits japan

an earthquake, the worst in 140 years has hit japan. a wide tsunami was observed
after the 8.9 on the richter scale earthquake that occurred during the afternoon
peak time. there were also a number of strong aftershocks reported.
the initial death toll is not yet known.

from the jarl building headquarters the newly appointed secretary ken yamamoto,
ja1cjp, reports that the building shook quite strongly, but no serious damage
was caused.

"with regard to amateur radio activity in the affected areas, we are not
aware of any so far," he said.

"it seems that the communications infrastructure has survived
the quake and is in working order in regard to priority communications".

ken ja1cjp is making inquiries wider afield to determine jarl involvement.

今早看了新闻，日本的应急措施还是不错的。

widespread earthquake and tsunami damage

it has been 24 hours since the worst earthquake for 140 years hit off north-eastern
sendai registering 8.9 on the richter scale and triggering a tsunami.

jarl secretary ken yamamoto ja1cjp reports that the disaster appears to have
resulted in more than 1,300 people killed or missing.

jarl regional hq station ja7rl is now involved in emergency communication
to support rescue and disaster relief coordination.

ken ja1cjp said they are using 7 mhz ssb, 144 mhz ssb/fm and 430 mhz ssb/fm.

the frequency 7043 controlled by jr3qhq the osaka branch manager of jarl.
he is gathering incident information on radio and forwarding this information
on the internet.

the channel 7075 is operated by jl3ysp in wakayama occasionally. while 7030
khz is the jarl emergency communication frequency in their bandplan is in
use by ja7rl (jarl regional hq station).

japan has 1.3 million hams and is not in need of emergency communication
help externally, although this has been kindly offered.

ken ja1cjp said basically the efforts being made are purely voluntary. no
organised emergency communication has been arranged.

television coverage includes the heartbreaking stories of the quake hitting
and the tsunami that swept away coastal towns and felt throughout the pacific.
occurring late afternoon on friday, disrupting plans for travel, it was the
worst in japan for 140 years.

caught up in the drama was iaru regional 3 chairman michael owen vk3ki who
had earlier attended an iaru conference. he?s safe and well, and hopeful
of being on a flight home.

碘片（碘化鉀）藥劑使用說明
一、碘片之介紹：
碘是一種微量元素，主要存在於海帶、海苔中，而碘片則是碘化鉀之通稱，
含有穩定碘。本碘片劑量為一三o 毫克，穩定碘含量是一00 毫克。
二、碘片效用：
（一）碘片可阻止游離碘集入甲狀腺，只要有足夠的量就可以阻止放射性碘
進入甲狀腺，服用三十分鐘後，就可以發生阻塞功能。放射性碘由曝
露環境吸入到甲狀腺約需十到十二小時，故在吸入後三到四小時服用
本藥劑，可以阻擋百分之五十以上之放射碘進入甲狀腺內。
（二）服用碘片後，穩定碘即先蓄積於甲狀腺中，食物中適量的碘可維護甲
狀腺之正常功能。唯於核子事故發生時，如有大量放射性碘經由呼吸
道進入體內，將會傷害甲狀腺，影響甲狀腺功能，日後亦可能有罹患
甲狀腺癌之虞。服用碘片後，放射性碘不易進入甲狀腺內，可避免或
減少上述情形之發生。
（三）碘片對於核子事故發生時所釋放之其他放射性物質並無保護作用。
三、適應症：
限於輻射緊急事故，保護甲狀腺時使用。
四、碘片之使用時機：
核子事故發生或有發生之虞時，應考慮採行服用碘片措施之干預基準，為可
減免甲狀腺約定等價劑量達一百毫西弗以上。
五、碘片服用方法：
（一）成人每日一錠（一三o 毫克），孕婦及三至十二歲兒童每日半錠（六
十五毫克），未滿三歲兒童每日四分之一錠，請按照指示遵守服用量。
（二）應於飯後三十分鐘內服用，每次服用盡可能間隔二十四小時。
六、服用注意事項：
（一）碘過敏者不可服用碘片。
（二）最長持續服用時間不得超過十日。
（三）應存放於兒童觸摸不到的地點。
（四）兒童服用方法之建議：可磨成粉末，拌合橘子汁、糖汁、果醬服用。
（五）甲狀腺患者、孕婦及新生兒服用時，請遵照醫師指示。
七、不良反應：
（一）少數人服用碘片後，可能出現皮膚疹、唾液腺腫大、金屬性味覺、嘴
巴或喉嚨有燒灼感、牙齒和牙齦酸痛、感冒樣之症狀、胃不舒服和下
痢。少部份人有較嚴重的過敏症狀，包括發燒和關節痛、臉和身體部
腫脹，甚至呼吸困難，但很少見，應立即停止服藥並就醫。
（二）有可能出現流涎（salivation）、唾液腺腫大（swelling of salivary
gland）、頭疼（headache）等，這些在停藥後將逐漸消失，如程度嚴
重可對症下藥由醫師處理。

since 0015-0030 utc 13 march. i could not catch their call signs.
